Where Do We Go From Here?

First, let me apologize for my obvious absence from the blog recently, but please trust me when I say there is a God story involved!

For some time now I have been praying that God would provide me with an opportunity to work part-time. Why part-time you ask? Due to autoimmune disease, I have been physically unable to work outside of the home for many years.  In recent months I have started to improve with some new treatment. It’s obvious I will likely never be able to work an 8-10 hour day due to pain and fatigue. But, I began to think that with God’s help I could muster 4 or 5 hours per day.

That desire to help contribute financially led me to pray, seeking God’s will and direction.

Day after day for weeks I prayed for the Lord to provide me an opportunity that was exactly what I was able to do and still allow me to minister to women.

Several weeks ago a message from a friend arrived in my inbox. She is a director for a local church after school program. During the summer they have a full day camp for children through 5th grade. She was seeking a part-time afternoon receptionist and summer teachers.

My son was home from college and looking for a summer job, so I passed along the information and didn’t give it another thought. Back I went to praying that the Lord would provide me with a part-time opportunity.

Do you see where this is going?

I was driving home from a hair appointment one day, and felt compelled to talk to God. Again I asked Him to provide me with an opportunity for work. It was almost as if He were beside me when I heard, “I’ve already provided it. It’s in your inbox!”

At that moment, I felt God telling me that the part-time receptionist opportunity was for me.

As soon as I arrived home, I messaged my friend and asked if she was still seeking a receptionist because I was interested. She responded immediately! “If you’re really interested, let’s talk!” I was in her office 30 minutes later, and not more than an hour after I initially reached out to her, I was hired! My new job began a week later and I love it!

I am able to encourage children and parents alike, sharing the love of Jesus to all who pass through the lobby each day. Hundreds of parents and children.

But God wasn’t done yet!

I was also studying and preparing for the next Encourage Her Ministry online Bible study. I had already told the online community that we would be studying the book of Psalms this summer.

God made it clear that way my plan, not His.

Just before I began my new job, as I was working with the ministry team for our annual gatHER Women’s Conference, I started to struggle with my self-worth. It’s a struggle I have faced all of my life. I found myself listening once again to the lies of the enemy. Jabs were coming left and right with lies! “You’re unworthy, worthless, stupid, useless, fat, ugly and no one would ever listen to you. Nothing you say or do matters, so just give up now.”

The Holy Spirit prompted me to reach out to one of my teammates and dear sisters in Christ and share my heart.

She told me to tell Satan to skip rocks. After a powerful, tear-stained conversation with my sweet friend, I felt empowered. It was time for me to tell Satan to go sit on a cactus! I had work to do!

The new Bible study would not be about the book of Psalms. It would be about our identity in Christ!

Immediately I began making lists of scripture passages that provided beautiful affirmations of who we daughters of Christ are! We embody the character of God. He created us in His perfect image. We are chosen, beloved, free, rescued, redeemed, saved, justified, and the list goes on and on!

So where do we go from here?
