This time of year, we race around trying to pick out the perfect turkey, and bake the perfect pie, but we fail to focus on the greatest reason of all for celebrating Thanksgiving. Giving Thanks to the Lord for all that He has done.
Thanksgiving was created as a holiday for which we would give thanks for the year’s harvest. Of course, many of our families no longer farm and hunt for all of our provisions like the settlers back in 1621 did, even still we have much to celebrate. The greatest blessing is one which was provided over 2000 years ago when Jesus Christ died on the cross, as the perfect sacrifice, for all of our sins. He was the perfect lamb, and the greatest blessing that could be bestowed upon mankind.
With the holidays beginning with Thanksgiving and continuing through Christmas, we often become so busy trying to impress our families that we fail to focus on giving thanks. Life gets chaotic and scripture reading time seems to take a backseat. I get it! We think we will get there later in the day. Yet, buy the time things have quieted down enough to spend time with the Lord we stumble into bed…exhausted.
So this year as Encourage Her Ministry celebrates her first Thanksgiving, I invite you to take a few moments each day and read one of the Psalms of Thanksgiving on this handy list. Seriously, it won’t take more than a minute or two and you will be so glad you did! Print it off and stick it on the bathroom mirror or next to the coffee pot. I assure you that the most meaningful Thanksgiving you will ever have is one during which you focus on the abundance God has provided this year, and not the size of that turkey.
