I love the truth found in Hebrews 13:5,
Keep your life free from love of money, and be content with what you have, for he has said, “I will never leave you or forsake you.”
God is telling us that we don’t need to seek out the material things. No contentment can be found in the temporal. Contentment and true satisfaction come only in Christ Jesus.
How is such contentment possible? For the believer in Christ, she knows with great certainty that God will never leave her. He always goes before and behind, hedging her in with his incredible love and protection.
Why is it so important to remember that our contentment comes from Christ alone?
1 Timothy 6:7-8 states it so well.
“for we brought nothing into the world, and we cannot take anything out of the world. But, if we have food and clothing, with these we will be content.”
Everything material will pass from this life. What clothes you wear, what car you drive, how fancy your house is means nothing. As Grandma used to say, “you can’t take it with you.”
So what can you take with you? The love and security of Christ Jesus. The beauty of an eternity spent in His presence worshipping him for all that he has done.
This life is turbulent, and we are so often tossed about, but the greatest thing we can learn is to be content in Christ Jesus, knowing that in Him, we will never be alone.
