For God so loved the world, that he gave his only Son, that whoever believes in him should not perish but have eternal life. John 3:16 (ESV)
I love to break the scripture down into question and answer segments to help with a greater focus. Here is what my journal study page looks like:
Let’s walk through this question and answer together and then draw some conclusions.
- Who loved? God loved.
- Loved what? The world.
- How much? With such great intensity (so much so).
- What did God do? He gave his only Son to die in my place.
- Why? So that I would not perish, but have eternal life.
How can it be that the God of the universe, creator of all, cares for and loves me? He loves you!
What’s even greater is the reality that God provided this amazing gift to us while we were still sinners. He didn’t wait to see if you were going to get your life straight. God didn’t hang around anticipating you’d believe in His Son.
God prepared His Son Jesus Christ as the perfect payment for our sins before the foundation of the world; before he ever brought you or me into existence, he loved us so lavishly that he was willing to die for us.
“but God shows his love for us in that while we were still sinners, Christ died for us.” Romans 5:8 (ESV)
He loves you with an indescribable love; an eternal love will last forever. Once you realize this, then your view on eternal life should change.
Eternal life no longer is viewed simply as living forever but is all about experiencing the divine life at the feet of Our Father. Our eternity will be forever worshipping Jesus for who he is; a beautiful, perfect, glory-filled Father who lay down his life for his children. And when that day comes, we will forever be in holy, constant communion with Our Christ.
My dear sister, you are loved! Don’t ever for a moment think you aren’t. God loved you so much that he sent you a gift; Jesus Christ. All you have to do is believe.
