How often have you heard someone make this statement? Maybe you’ve let these words cross your mind.
Or perhaps you find yourself comparing sins, believing that what you have done in life is far worse than anyone else, so how can God forgive you?
Maybe, you realize that God forgives you at the moment of your conversion for the sins of your past, yet you find yourself wondering about your purpose.
Let’s begin by agreeing that thoughts of God not forgiving you are lies.
When you are in Christ, there is nothing you have done in this life – absolutely nothing, that will keep God from loving you and forgiving you for your sins.
Romans 3:22b-24 (ESV) says, “For there is no distinction: for all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God, and are justified by his grace as a gift, through the redemption that is in Christ Jesus.”
I love this passage of scripture! There is no distinction – no difference; nothing that separates us or sets us apart. Sin is sin, and according to verse 23, we have all sinned. Not one of us, other than Jesus, has ever walked with earth without sin.
While this is a pretty heavy thought for our first day of study, it is important to understand.
But verse 24 changes everything! There is hope!
“They are justified freely by His grace through the redemption that came by Jesus Christ.” (Romans 3:24 NIV)
Hope is found in these beautiful words – justified, grace, and redemption.
Justified is one of those words that I’ve read most of my life, yet never truly grasped until recent years. It means you are declared righteous by God. That’s still sort of clear as mud isn’t it?
When we are justified because we are in Christ, God justifies us – He declares us not guilty! All charges against us are dropped! Buy how? Why?
Sister, you are declared innocent by God, because of His great grace. Grace – the unmerited favor of God. Grace is completely underserved, there is nothing we can do to earn it or purchase it. In reality, we do not deserve it. Yet our God willingly pours it upon us because of the sacrifice His Son, Jesus Christ made on the cross.
The good news does not stop there! You are redeemed in Christ. You are purchased, bought and paid for, your sin debt has been paid in full by the shed blood of Jesus Christ, not because you deserve it, but because God loves you!
Sister, it is time to stop believing the lies, embrace the truth and realize who you are in Christ! You, my dear, are a daughter of the One, True God.
You are loved, forgiven, justified, declared righteous, and redeemed by the shed blood of God’s Only Son, Jesus Christ! That’s who you are!
“Who is a God like You, forgiving iniquity and passing over rebellion for the remnant of his inheritance? He does not hold onto his anger forever because He delights in faithful love. He will again have compassion on us; he will vanquish our iniquities. You will cast all our sins into the depths of the sea.” Micah 7:18-19 CSB
